Going solar is a big decision – one that most people only make once in their lives. We asked past customers what they’d tell themselves if they could go back and start their solar journeys over again. If you’re considering implementing solar into your life, or have already begun the process, check out what experienced solar owners would change or do again.
Financing and Incentives
DO IT! NOW! It’s like investing in 401K
The sooner you invest, the quicker you start saving and making money.
-Stephen H.
Stephen is right. In fact, with an average Return on Investment (ROI) of 7-12 years, going solar has an even quicker return than a 401k. And as federal and state incentives are on tiered levels with rates that will decrease over time, the sooner you go solar, the more incentives you’ll be able to take advantage of. Learn more about solar incentives and rebates.
It is expensive.
Without government subsidies, I don’t know if you will be able to break even. This is a choice for long term for you, your community and country. It becomes natural after a while, and you forget about it.
-Kristine E.
The majority of our customers would not be able to implement into their lives without the incentives, tax credits, rebates and net metering programs that are currently offered by the state, federal government, and IBEW union. That’s why we work so hard to keep them, and why Artisan’s leaders are active in lobbying for greater solar accessibility at the state and federal levels.
Our customer base is also heavily reliant on financing programs, and we proudly work with Puget Sound Cooperative Credit Union (PSCCU), an organization that makes solar possible for nearly 75% of our customers. Learn more about our partnership with PSCCU.
The incentives can be confusing, so make sure you ask lots of questions.
Artisan can lay out the options! After you install solar, you’ll be a part of a community of solar owners and feel proud of your investment!”
-Emma J.
Make sure you understand the governmental incentives and what risk you have of them changing during your ownership.
-David D.
It seems like there’s always something in the news about new or changing incentives. But you don’t have to navigate these changes alone. Artisan Electric will supply you with a proposal that will outline exactly the incentives you will qualify for and how much of your system they will cover. What’s best is that you are locked into the current incentive rates you sign up for. So even when they decrease over the years, you will not be affected by it. If, at some point, there are ever changes to your incentives, we will notify you immediately and discuss your options.
Site Assessments and Preparing for Your System
It is worth having Artisan come and do a free evaluation of your property.
They write up a very detailed report and allow you to make a no-pressure decision about whether to go ahead or not.
-Adam S.
Be certain you understand how effective solar power would be at your location.
Clearly understand if you have to make some changes, especially if you would need a new roof, before installation. Talk about service after the installation.

Do yourself a favor and contact Artisan Electric for a bid.
-Mary and Ernest M.
Understand ahead of time what the local code enforcement will require of your solar contractor.
During the inspection after installation is the wrong time to be surprised about what reconfiguration the code inspectors are going to require.
-Blair J.
You will be so happy once your system is up and running.
You can look at your smart phone and see the energy being produced! As for advice, as with anything in life, in order to avoid surprises, ask lots of questions. These folks are good at what they do and will be happy to make sure they give you answers to anything you’re wondering about.
-Bill B.
During your site assessment, Artisan will give you your options and conservative estimates for your output potential. Your system should and will be built to perform better than expected for decades, so it’s important that we are brutally honest about your site’s potential for the solar output you desire.
The Solar Community
Do it while the incentives are in place!
Once you get your system, stay involved to help promote solar and advocate for the solar community so that our incentives stay in place and so that others can go solar – including those who are lower income.
-Dennis M.
